Blink and you miss it

I looked at my 3-year-old daughter today as she reached up on the kitchen counter to grab the package of Ritz that were sitting there. I blinked for a minute. How did she reach that?

I blinked again. Man, she's gotten so tall. She comes up past my waist now. (I'm a short gal, 5 feet tall, but still...) She uses words and phrases like, "I appreciate it," and "I'm parched" instead of "I'm thirsty." When did she get an actual vocabulary? She makes more sense in her arguments with me and sometimes I just have to sit back and marvel at how mature she's gotten.

With my 16-month-old son, he's zoomed up before I formulate a thought on how I felt about it. Take his tantrum the other day. He wanted food. I was a little slow on getting things together. He goes to the Lazy Susan, spins it around, grabs the box of pancake mix, brings it to me and says, "Pancakes." What? My baby is...well, a toddler now.

Every mom always say, "It seems like just yesterday..." but really, it WAS just yesterday. Kids are only kids for such a short amount of time and I finally get it. I finally understand why veteran moms always say to enjoy every moment, savor every embrace, cherish every day.

Hi You are so right...I can't remember when "frigalator" changed to refrigerator. I sure liked the "frigalator" days though! Swati
